City Council Scorecard

"As the tally below indicates, the City of Escondido needs a council member who
  • Has a fresh perspective.
  • Is not tied to a specific business interest.
  • Listens to our residents, and responds to your needs.
"I will listen to you, and work with you, to build prosperity throughout our community, and improve our overall quality of life."

Cheers

I applaud the City Council for:
  • Supporting the Escondido Creek vitalization concept.
  • Protecting children's teeth by adding fluoride to our city drinking water.
  • Supporting construction of the new Palomar Medical Center in our community.
  • Encouraging many residents to become aware and involved in local politics.
I will listen to you, and work with you, to build prosperity throughout our community, and improve our overall quality of life.

Jeers

On the other hand, the City Council should never have:
  • Spent thousands of tax-payer dollars in unnecessary lawsuits.
  • Allowed businesses to leave without an exit interview (perhaps the city could have accommodated individual circumstances, thereby encouraging companies to remain).
  • Contributed $16.5 million in city funds as part of the luxury hotel package (I’m all for construction of the hotel, but city participation should not have included commitment of the taxpayer-funded nest egg!).
  • Focused so much on checkpoints, to the detriment of overall crime prevention.
  • Tried to congest our downtown with a ballpark (let the city council know your feelings about this before we're locked into something we don't need and don't want).
  • Cut funds for our public library.
  • Placed residents at risk by reducing staffing at fire stations.
  • Used downtown commercial land for more condominiums.
  • Proposed an increase in city service fees after providing huge raises to the city manager and city attorney.
